Centlec Assures Customers: No Impact from Eskom Increment

Centlec (SOC) Ltd, the electricity provider serving various regions, has issued a statement to quell concerns sparked by misleading messages circulating on social media platforms. These messages erroneously claimed that a 12% increase in electricity tariffs would take effect from April 1st. Centlec has clarified that these claims are unfounded and urged consumers not to be misled.

In their official statement, Centlec emphasized that the new electricity tariffs for the financial year 2024/25 in their operational area will only be implemented from July 1st, 2024. This implementation is subject to approval by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa), after thorough consideration of Centlec's application for the specified period.

Furthermore, Centlec clarified that the recent announcement by Eskom regarding a 12.27% increment over the Easter Weekend has no bearing on Centlec's tariff increment application. The application process is independent and still pending approval.

Addressing concerns about tariff changes, Centlec informed its clientele that it will be implementing winter tariffs from June 1st, 2024, to August 31st, 2024. Subsequently, summer tariffs will take effect from September 1st, 2024. Consumers are encouraged to visit Centlec's official website at www.centlec.co.za to access information regarding current electricity tariffs for the 2023/24 period.

The statement aims to reassure consumers and dispel any confusion caused by misinformation circulating on social media platforms. Centlec remains committed to transparent communication and providing accurate information to its customers.

As the utility provider navigates through regulatory processes and tariff adjustments, it emphasizes the importance of relying on official channels for information regarding electricity tariffs and related updates.
