Bloemfontein — A case of fraud has been officially opened against Lebohang Mokatedi, the head of Lebohang Society and Financial Service, at the Bloemspruit Police Station. The allegations involve the failure to deliver promised groceries to individuals who had subscribed to his scheme. Further cases are expected to be opened this morning in Botshabelo and Thaba Nchu, as more people step forward claiming to have been defrauded by Mokatedi.

Lebohang Mokatedi allegedly operated a grocery delivery scheme that required participants to pay monthly fees in exchange for groceries. This initiative reportedly targeted residents of Botshabelo, Thaba Nchu, Bloemfontein, and even extended to smaller areas such as Jaggersfontein. However, many participants claim they never received the goods they were promised despite their regular payments.

The scheme appeared to focus on low-income communities, promising a convenient and affordable solution to grocery needs. Individuals who joined the scheme are now accusing Mokatedi of taking advantage of their trust and financial vulnerability.

A victim from Thaba Nchu shared her story, saying, “We believed this was an opportunity to save money and feed our families, but it has turned into a nightmare. Many of us are struggling to make ends meet, and now we’ve lost money that we could have used elsewhere.”

Another individual from Jaggersfontein expressed similar sentiments, stating, “The promises were too good to be true, but we trusted him because he targeted people in our communities. We feel betrayed.”

Authorities have urged anyone who may have been affected by this alleged scheme to come forward and report their cases. Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Themba Mokoena commented, “We are investigating all claims and working to ensure justice is served. Cases have already been opened, and we encourage others to file formal complaints so that we can gather enough evidence.”

Lebohang Mokatedi has not yet publicly addressed the allegations against him. Efforts to reach him for comment have been unsuccessful.

This incident highlights the importance of verifying the legitimacy of financial schemes, particularly in vulnerable communities where residents are often looking for ways to stretch their income. The police investigation will determine the extent of the fraud and whether legal action will be taken against Mokatedi.
