The Free State Legislature's 7th Administration was officially inaugurated on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at the historic City Hall in Bloemfontein. Premier MaQueen Letsoha Mathae addressed the house with a powerful vision for the province’s future, focusing on transparency, accountability, and improved public services.
In her speech, Premier Mathae emphasized her commitment to implementing the "Batho Pele Principle" across all government departments. This principle, which translates to "People First," underscores the importance of prioritizing citizens in government actions and services. Mathae stated, "Patients must not be in hospitals for more than five hours without being assisted." Her bold promise to overhaul the provincial health system aims to ensure that patients are attended to promptly and treated with dignity.
Premier Mathae also spoke about economic development, particularly the importance of empowering Free State residents by providing them with access to government land for business purposes. This initiative, she believes, will stimulate economic growth and create much-needed jobs in the province.
In a move to enforce accountability, Mathae vowed to conduct unannounced visits to municipalities. This strategy is intended to keep government officials on their toes and ensure that public funds and resources are managed effectively. "I am still going to visit all the municipalities unannounced to keep officials accountable," she declared, signaling her determination to bring about real change.
As the 7th administration embarks on its journey, Premier Mathae’s leadership is poised to bring a renewed sense of hope, responsibility, and progress to the Free State. Residents can look forward to a government that not only listens but also acts in their best interests, fostering stability and growth within the province.
