In a tragic incident on Saturday, March 23rd, 2024, a pedestrian fell victim to a heartless hit-and-run on the R702 near Caleb Motshabi in Bloemfontein. The perpetrator, driving a white Toyota Corolla, callously fled the scene after the collision, leaving behind a life lost and a community in shock.

The Kagisanong police were swift to respond following the distress call, arriving at the scene promptly. Sadly, their arrival revealed a grim reality - an unidentified adult male, approximately 40 years old, had succumbed to fatal injuries inflicted by the hit-and-run. Emergency personnel, despite their efforts, were unable to save the victim.

Initial reports suggest that the victim, whose identity remains undisclosed at the time of writing, was walking along the roadside when the speeding Toyota Corolla struck him, showing no signs of slowing down or stopping to offer assistance. The impact of the collision left the victim with severe injuries, leading to his untimely demise.

Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli, leading the investigation, provided insight into the ongoing efforts to bring justice to the victim and his grieving loved ones. "The deceased, clad in a black top, blue jeans, black tekkies, and a grey cap, was tragically taken from us," Sergeant Kareli expressed. "However, our dedicated team of detectives remained undeterred, pursuing every lead to ensure the responsible party faces the full extent of the law."

In a commendable display of diligence and determination, Kagisanong detectives swiftly tracked down the perpetrator and the vehicle involved in the heinous crime. The culprit, a 52-year-old male, was apprehended in Phase 6, marking a significant breakthrough in the case.

"The swift apprehension of the suspect is a testament to the unwavering commitment of the Kagisanong Police Department to serve and protect our community," stated Sergeant Kareli. "The driver will face charges of culpable homicide, with additional charges pending further investigation."

The suspect is expected to make his appearance in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court in the coming days, where the wheels of justice will begin to turn for the victim and his bereaved family. The community, while grappling with the loss of one of their own, finds solace in the knowledge that those responsible for this senseless tragedy will be held to account.

As Bloemfontein mourns the loss of a cherished member of its community, the resolve to combat reckless and irresponsible behavior on its roads has never been stronger. The memory of the victim will serve as a poignant reminder of the importance of road safety and the devastating consequences of negligence behind the wheel.
