A significant rise in the installation of Small-Scale Embedded Generation (SSEG) Systems within Centlec’s area of supply has exposed the electrical infrastructure to excess energy that the generators are not using, all without Centlec's knowledge.
Residents and business owners within the municipality are now required to apply for such installations to ensure all necessary requirements for embedded generation are met, according to Centlec.
The application process is intended for SSEGs that would both utilize the energy generated and those that would export surplus energy back to the grid.
How to Apply in Centlec’s Area of Supply:
Centlec has outlined the steps for application as follows:
1. Appoint a Qualified Designer and Installer: Interested residents or businesses must hire a qualified SSEG designer and installer to handle the application process for consideration and approval.
2. Obtain and Submit Application Forms: The SSEG installation forms are available at the municipalities’ Customer Care Offices located at the Power Station building in Fort Street. Only written applications will be accepted.
Reason for Registration:
Centlec and the Mangaung Metro Municipality (MMM) emphasize that this registration process is crucial for ensuring the safety of the community, employees, and the environment. By managing these installations properly, they aim to create a safer and more energy-sustainable future for all.
Additionally, MMM and Centlec encourage residents to report any incidents of electricity and cable theft or tampering with the network.
Contact Information:
To report fraud or corruption, contact Centlec’s Fraud Hotline at 051-412-2239 or send a WhatsApp message to 064-616-5774. For further inquiries, locals can also send an email to FRAUDANDCORRUPTION@CENTLEC.CO.ZA.
By adhering to these guidelines, residents and businesses can contribute to a more reliable and efficient power system, benefiting the entire community.
