Bloemfontein - Oliewenhuis Art Museum is set to captivate art enthusiasts with its latest exhibition, "Realigned," curated by the talented Art Museum Guides. Running from Thursday, March 7, to Sunday, May 5, the exhibition promises to be a compelling exploration of South African artistry. The unveiling ceremony will take place at 19:00 in the Reservoir at Oliewenhuis.
"Realigned" draws from a rich array of sources, including artworks from Oliewenhuis Art Museum's Permanent Collection, The Art Bank of South Africa, and artifacts from the Collection Management and Library Department. Among the distinguished artists featured in the exhibition are Leora Farber, Judy Woodborne, Lionel Abrahams, and Michael Selekane, alongside many other luminaries of South African art.
The exhibition's title, "Realigned," reflects its central theme of altering or restoring something to a different or previous position or condition. Through a diverse range of subjects, including roots, identity, mental well-being, body image, journey, tranquility, and restoration, "Realigned" promises to offer viewers a thought-provoking and immersive experience.
What sets "Realigned" apart is its unique curatorial approach. The exhibition is curated annually by interns at Oliewenhuis, who undergo a comprehensive training program under the mentorship of the Curator and Education Officer. Throughout their contract period, these interns collaborate to shape every aspect of the exhibition, from conceptualizing the theme to selecting artworks, crafting curatorial statements and press releases, and curating and presenting the show in the designated exhibition space.
This hands-on experience not only nurtures the interns' professional development but also equips them with practical skills in the professional handling and installation of artworks. It is a testament to Oliewenhuis Art Museum's commitment to fostering the next generation of curatorial talent and promoting a deeper engagement with South African art.
"We are thrilled to present 'Realigned,' an exhibition that showcases the diversity and creativity of South African artists," said [Curator's Name], Curator of Oliewenhuis Art Museum. "Through their unique visual expressions, these artists invite us to reconsider our perspectives and explore the complexities of the human experience. We invite art lovers from near and far to join us on this journey of discovery."
"Realigned" promises to be a highlight of the cultural calendar, offering visitors an opportunity to engage with South Africa's vibrant artistic heritage. Whether you're a seasoned art enthusiast or a curious newcomer, this exhibition is not to be missed.
