Residents of Lourierpark, Bloemdal small holdings area, and surrounding neighborhoods in Bloemfontein, South Africa, are breathing a collective sigh of relief as the Red Ants were deployed to remove land invaders from the farm Brandkop 702 earlier today.
The situation unfolded rapidly after individuals from various parts of the greater Mangaung area began erecting shacks along Jagersfontein Road on Saturday, 2 March. Despite the Mangaung Metro obtaining a court order the same day to halt the illegal invasion, enforcement was initially delayed, resulting in an influx of land grabbers to the area.
Responding to mounting pressure, the Democratic Alliance (DA) and civil organizations such as the Fichardtpark Neighbourhood Association (FNA) sought legal intervention from the Free State High Court to enforce the order. Subsequently, the Metro engaged the Red Ants to begin eviction proceedings in the early hours of Friday morning.
By midday, the Red Ants had made significant progress in dismantling unlawful structures, leaving behind heaps of corrugated iron and abandoned belongings of the trespassers.

Meanwhile, prospective land recipients gathered near Pellissier Drive at the T-junction with Jagersfontein Road, expressing frustration over the lack of clarity regarding official allocation procedures. Some residents revealed they had been awaiting land allocation since 2019 and voiced difficulties in obtaining accurate information.
