Telkom Partners with Amazon Prime Video to Offer Free Subscriptions to Customers

Telkom, one of South Africa's leading telecommunications operators, has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Amazon Prime Video, providing free limited-period subscriptions to its customers. The collaboration aims to offer added value and alleviate financial strain on Telkom subscribers by granting access to a plethora of entertainment options.

Beginning March 28, 2024, Telkom customers purchasing new Telkom FlexOn or Infinite plans will be eligible for one to 12 months of complimentary access to Amazon's Prime Video Mobile Edition, which typically costs R29 per month. Similarly, existing mobile postpaid and top-up customers will receive free subscriptions ranging from three to 12 months.

In a statement, Telkom's chief marketing officer, Gugu Mthembu, emphasized the company's commitment to enhancing customer experience. Mthembu stated, "We aim to ease the pressure on our customers' pockets by adding value to our products, and this partnership with Amazon Prime Video is a testament to that commitment."

Prepaid mobile users who recharge with R99 or more within a calendar month will also enjoy a three-month subscription to Prime Video Mobile Edition. However, once the promotional periods expire, subscriptions will auto-renew at R29 per month, seamlessly integrating into customers' billing cycles.

Prime Video Mobile Edition, initially introduced in South Africa in October 2022 and previously exclusive to Vodacom, offers a wide array of content comparable to a regular Prime Video subscription. However, it is optimized for mobile devices, limiting streaming resolution to 480p and concurrent streams to one user.

In addition to mobile offerings, Telkom extends the benefits to its fibre and LTE customers. New and existing fibre and mobile LTE postpaid or top-up subscribers will receive three months of the full Prime Video service, priced at R79 per month. This version allows for streaming movies and TV shows at up to 4K quality, with six profiles and three concurrent streams.

Telkom assures its customers that they will be notified in advance via SMS or email about the availability of these offers. After the complimentary period concludes, customers will automatically be billed the regular price on their Telkom accounts unless they opt to cancel the subscription.

This collaboration between Telkom and Amazon Prime Video marks a significant step in providing affordable entertainment options to South African consumers. By leveraging such partnerships, Telkom continues to demonstrate its dedication to enhancing customer satisfaction and staying at the forefront of the telecommunications industry.
