Council Speaker Launches Bongani Leadership Project to Support Popano Secondary School

In a move aimed at fostering educational support and empowerment, Council Speaker, Cllr. Lawrence Mathae, inaugurated the Bongani Leadership Project at Eunice Secondary School for Girls on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. This initiative is part of the broader Adopt-A-School program, which aims to uplift educational institutions in underprivileged communities.

The focal point of the project is to extend vital assistance to Popano Secondary School in Botshabelo. Cllr. Mathae elucidated that the genesis of this endeavor traces back to the beginning of the year during the "back to school" campaign in January. During this campaign, a visit to Popano Secondary School instilled a commitment in him to support the school's development.

"I reached out to Eunice Secondary School, and they were enthusiastic about initiating this project. They promptly organized a book sale to generate funds for the refurbishment of Popano Secondary School's library," remarked Cllr. Mathae.

At its core, the Bongani Leadership Project aspires to instill a culture of reading and cultivate confidence among learners hailing from disadvantaged backgrounds. By providing essential resources and infrastructure, the initiative endeavors to create an enabling environment for academic excellence.

The decision to concentrate efforts on supporting Popano Secondary School underscores a commitment to addressing educational disparities and nurturing talent in marginalized communities. Through collaborative efforts between Eunice Secondary School and the wider community, the project aims to effect tangible change and empower learners to realize their full potential.

Speaking on the significance of the project, Cllr. Mathae emphasized the importance of collective action in driving positive social change. "Projects like these exemplify the power of unity and collaboration. By coming together, we can create lasting impact and pave the way for a brighter future for our youth," he remarked.

The launch of the Bongani Leadership Project marks a pivotal moment in the journey towards educational equity and empowerment. As the initiative gains momentum, it holds the promise of transforming not only the physical infrastructure of schools but also the lives of countless learners who stand to benefit from its endeavors.
