Executive Mayor Gregory Nthatisi Leads Discussions on Unoccupied Factories and Title Deeds in Thaba Nchu

In a bid to address pressing concerns and foster economic growth in Thaba Nchu, Executive Mayor Gregory Nthatisi spearheaded a pivotal meeting earlier today, gathering a consortium of stakeholders to deliberate on issues surrounding unoccupied factories and title deeds. The meeting, held on April 3, 2024, saw the convergence of key figures including the MEC for DESTEA, Thabo Meeko, HOD for Public Works, Ernest Mohlahlo, and officials from the FDC and Human Settlements.

Mayor Nthatisi underscored the imperative of a collaborative effort among provincial departments in tackling multifaceted challenges that have persisted within the city. "I saw it important that we all come together and find a solution to some of the problems that were raised by residents with regards to title deeds and using the unoccupied factories to create employment opportunities for the people of Mangaung," Mayor Nthatisi emphasized.

Of paramount concern is the predicament faced by over 1600 residents in Thaba Nchu who find themselves entangled in a web of bureaucratic hurdles concerning title deeds. Mayor Nthatisi elucidated, "They can't renovate their houses because they don't have the right documentation. This land is owned by Public Works and residents were given permission to occupy. There have been issues with transferring the land to the municipality." He stressed the urgency in resolving this matter to afford occupants the peace of mind they deserve.

MEC Meeko, present at the meeting, echoed Mayor Nthatisi's sentiments, elucidating the intrinsic link between unoccupied factories and economic development in the region. "The province is known for agriculture and farming, but there's an opportunity to strengthen other areas of economic development such as manufacturing," MEC Meeko emphasized. He affirmed the province's commitment to leveraging unutilized industrial infrastructure to bolster economic prosperity.

The dialogue underscored a shared commitment among stakeholders to surmount barriers hindering progress and unleash the latent potential inherent within Thaba Nchu. It is envisaged that concerted efforts and strategic initiatives emanating from this meeting will pave the way for tangible advancements in addressing the plight of residents and propelling economic growth within the region.

As discussions continue, it is hoped that the momentum generated will usher in a new era of collaboration, innovation, and prosperity for Thaba Nchu and its inhabitants.
