Mayor Nthatisi Launches Electrification Project to Bolster Service Delivery in Mangaung Metro

BOTSHABELO, MANGAUNG METRO – In a bid to enhance service delivery and provide essential amenities to its residents, Mangaung Metro Executive Mayor Gregory Nthatisi spearheaded the launch of an electrification project in wards 32, 37, and 38 today, April 16, 2024.

The initiative, a pivotal component of the municipality's commitment to accelerating development within the city, aims to extend electricity access to previously underserved settlements. Mayor Nthatisi, addressing the gathering at Botshabelo, underscored the significance of this project in ensuring equitable access to basic services for all residents.

Collaborating with the city's energy entity, Centlec, Mayor Nthatisi emphasized the municipality's dedication to overcoming challenges and fulfilling its obligation to its citizens. "With the city's energy entity-Centlec, we will be electrifying a number of settlements across the city. We would like to thank you for coming today as we launch the Mangaung Electrification Project," Mayor Nthatisi remarked.

Highlighting some of the obstacles confronting the Centlec team, Mayor Nthatisi pointed out the importance of households being registered and having valid addresses to facilitate the electrification process. "One of the challenges that the Centlec team faces is that they don't electrify households that are not registered and don't have addresses," Mayor Nthatisi acknowledged.

Moreover, Mayor Nthatisi outlined the post-electrification responsibilities of the residents, urging them to actively participate in maintaining the infrastructure. "After the electrification is done and we have switched on, we request that residents buy electricity. If you don't have the means, then we encourage you to apply to be in the city's indigent register, and you will get free basic services," Mayor Nthatisi advised.

The electrification project not only symbolizes the municipality's commitment to improving the lives of its residents but also signifies a step towards bridging the gap in access to essential services. As Mangaung Metro continues to prioritize development initiatives, the electrification project stands as a testament to the municipality's dedication to fostering inclusive growth and prosperity for all its inhabitants.
