MultiChoice Given Ultimatum by Magudumana's Legal Team Over Showmax Documentary

MultiChoice, the broadcasting giant, finds itself embroiled in a legal showdown as it faces an ultimatum from Nandipha Magudumana's legal representatives. Magudumana's legal team has demanded that MultiChoice provide a copy of the upcoming documentary Tracking Thabo Bester by Saturday afternoon, 2 pm. Failure to comply could lead to legal action seeking a High Court interim interdict to halt the release of the four-part series on Showmax.

The contentious documentary, slated for broadcast on Showmax on March 15 and 22, has stirred a hornet's nest of legal complications. Magudumana's lawyers assert that she did not authorize the production or streaming of a documentary in her name. They further argue that any information presented in the series pertains to evidence yet to be proven in a court of law.

Tracking Thabo Bester promises to delve into the intricate details surrounding Thabo Bester, notably dubbed the 'Facebook rapist,' and the circumstances leading to Magudumana's involvement with him. The documentary purportedly explores the reasons behind Magudumana's decision to abscond with Bester to Tanzania, leaving her children behind.

Nandipha Magudumana herself faces an array of charges, including fraud, corruption, defeating the ends of justice, and aiding and abetting a prisoner's escape. These charges stem from the escape of her boyfriend, Thabo Bester, a convicted murderer and rapist, from Mangaung Prison in May 2022.

The standoff between Magudumana's legal team and MultiChoice underscores the complexities surrounding the portrayal of real-life events in the media. As the deadline looms, the fate of Tracking Thabo Bester hangs in the balance, awaiting MultiChoice's response to the ultimatum issued by Magudumana's representatives.
