PUBLIC NOTICE: SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING ISSUED FOR MANGAUNG METRO

Mangaung Metro, South Africa

Residents of Mangaung Metro are advised to brace themselves as the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Level 6 warning for severe thunderstorms expected to hit the area on Sunday, April 7, 2024. The warning, classified as Impact Based, is in effect from midnight until 11:00 PM.

The SAWS advisory has highlighted the potential risks associated with the impending weather system, stating, “Due to the rain producing system (cut-off low), strong winds, hail, and heavy rain can be expected tomorrow. The rainfall accumulation is expected to be in excess of 50mm in general over the central interior."

With such severe weather conditions forecasted, residents are urged to take precautionary measures to ensure their safety and well-being. Road users are advised to exercise extreme caution while driving, as reduced visibility, slippery roads, and the possibility of flash floods may pose significant hazards.

Additionally, those residing in vulnerable areas are advised to secure loose objects outdoors and take necessary steps to protect their properties from potential damage. It is recommended to stay indoors during the thunderstorms and to avoid any unnecessary travel unless absolutely essential.

Emergency services and disaster management authorities are on high alert and are ready to respond to any incidents that may arise as a result of the severe weather. Residents are encouraged to stay informed about the latest weather updates and heed any further advisories or warnings issued by the SAWS or local authorities.

The safety of residents remains a top priority, and all necessary measures are being taken to minimize the impact of the impending severe weather event. By staying vigilant and prepared, together, we can navigate through this weather challenge and ensure the well-being of our community.
